Brand hosts runway show at new Paris storefront, set to open in 2024
Celebrating a fusion of the past and present is Alaïa at Haute Couture Week, a runway show set on Paris’ Faubourg St. Honoré which allowed guests a glance at the brand’s new store location. The unfinished space packed guests across its unfinished floor, making way for models to flaunt the creative work of Pieter Mulier as they descended flights of concrete stairs.
Finely tailored coats, fitted denim, and textured leather sat under layers of baroque pearls and asymmetrical halters at Monday’s show. In shades of black, grey, and gold, draped silhouettes were proof of the brand’s keen attention to craftsmanship, from sweeping capes to feather-lined skirts.
Standout looks boast an air of simplicity, meticulously constructed. Exuding both intricacy and sophistication, one draped single-shoulder dress cascaded down the model’s shoulder, billowing above the knee over black tights and elaborate feathered heels. The cream-colored one piece included a head covering sat snuggly on the model’s head, pulled tot by an oversized jeweled choker to complete the look.
Free moving fabrics were met with contrasting bodysuits and tight-fit skirt sets later down the runway, only to be followed by oversized furs and layered coats. A crocodile pattern made an appearance on several looks mid-show, bringing a natural element to the luxurious haute couture.
The practical blend of winter and spring culminated in a gold-studded finale, complete with geometric skirts and a colorful sequin dress protruding from the sea of black. The sheer, high-neck look closed the show with the symbolic light of an approaching spring.
The site of the runway show, Alaïa’s new storefront is set to open in 2024.
