Stranger Things left us on the edge of our seats following the release of its fourth season, and we’re ready for the thrills to keep coming our way for the fifth and final season. But what about the Stranger Things-shaped void we’ll be left with following the final season? Well, turn the frown Upside Down because, apparently, the popular Netflix sci-fi series will have a spin-off show!
So, according to Variety, the very talented Duffer Brothers have already started developing the series—but it won’t be based on the beloved ST characters such as Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven or Sadie Sink’s Max.
In fact, the creators want fans to know that the spin-off series will be “1,000% different” from Stranger Things, with only the connection to the show being its “storytelling sensibility.”
“It’s not following… I’ve read these rumors that there’s gonna be an Eleven spin-off. That there’s gonna be a Steve and Dustin spin-off or that it’s another number. That’s not interesting to me because we’ve done all that. We’ve spent I don’t know how many hours exploring all of that. So it’s very different,” Matt Duffer explained.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Matt added that while the show will be completely different, it will be a “story that connects to the Stranger Things world, but it really is more about how we’re telling that story.”
The Duffer Brothers will be heavily involved in the project, but they are looking for a new showrunner to bring the project to life.
“Hopefully, we find that right person to pass the baton to while we go on to do new stuff,” the brothers said.
While the siblings initially lost us when explaining that the original Stranger Things cast won’t be involved, the new project actually sounds very exciting! I mean, anything the Duffer Brothers touch turns into television gold! Here’s everything we know so far about the supposed spin-off…
Will the Stranger Things spin-off be on Netflix?
A tweet on July 6 confirmed that the Duffer Brothers have formed a production company to produce shows for Netflix: “The Duffer Brothers have formed Upside Down Pictures, a new production company through which they will develop film and television projects as part of their overall deal with Netflix. Here’s a sneak peek at a few of the projects that are currently IN DEVELOPMENT…”
