Ana de Armas made her first appearance at the Venice Film Festival on Wednesday, September 7, where she will be promoting the new Andrew Dominik-directed film, Blonde.
And given that De Armas portrays the iconic Marilyn Monroe in the film, it was only fitting that she choose a glamorous outfit for her first stop on the press tour. Arriving on one of those signature wooden speed boats, the actor wore a blue short-suit by Louis Vuitton, complete with golden nautical buttons and black strappy Gianvito Rossi heels. The micro shorts are a subtle nod to Marilyn—albeit in a much more modern way.
Monroe, who dominated Hollywood screens during the 1950s, had a penchant for wearing pinup-style high-waisted short-shorts and swimsuit bottoms. Archival images of the starlet showcase her wearing the piece in a variety of promotional images, either with T-shirts, bikini tops, or vampy corsets. Armas’s pleated take on the silhouette was decidedly longer and boxier, but would still look trendy in the ’50s.
