It’s that time of year again: As days become shorter and weather gets colder, it’s time to embrace your dark side with fall hair colors. Warm tones and pumpkin spice-inspired hues are currently trending, and the amarena cherry hair color trend is the latest iteration taking over social media. The dark red color can be achieved using balayage highlights or a solid color with a hint of amarena cherry.
“It’s not exactly red and it’s not exactly brunette”, says Jason Lee, hairstylist and founder of Mela & Kera. “It lies somewhere between a great way to be dark and dramatic. It’s sultry, mysterious, and definitely sexy.” Common during the ’90s among startlets like Drew Barrymore, Winona Ryder, and Julia Roberts, the amarena cherry trend is having a comeback.

Since the amarena cherry hair color can have multiple hues, the color works on a majority of skin tones. Since there is a violet tint that runs through the color, Lee says, those with cooler tones will look great with this color. This means a more deep burgundy shade will be achievable, making it a standout amongst fall hair colors.
For those with warmer skin tones, like Zendaya, Lee recommends a reddish version of the hairstyle.
