New proportions—long a Jimmy Choo signature—are a driving force behind this season’s leggy silhouettes from the London house. Creative director Sandra Choi says she’s focused on dynamic shapes meant to traverse sped-up streetscapes where freedom of movement is key, as are soft, flexible soles. Beyoncé, Rihanna, Natalie Portman, Uma Thurman and Meryl Streep have all donned the brand’s past limb-elongating designs, and now its new Vari thigh-high boots with walkable 45-mm heels; liquid metal Eris pointed-toe pumps with swinging tassels; and quilted Varenne Avenue shoulder bags suspended on delicate chains are driving fall’s dynamic looks.
Over-the-knee Biker II flat boots are a reinterpretation of a house signature, complete with a thick tread sole and stretch bonded fabric, forming an elegant new silhouette showcased by Los Angeles native Kendall Jenner in the line’s latest campaign. The knee-high Blake, with a streamlined wedge heel, comes in velvet or covered in reflective crystals. (Jenner wears it in black leather poolside at interior designer Kelly Wearstler’s lushly landscaped Beverly Hills house.) And, in a nod to a style first created in the aughts, there are candy pink nappa Dreece stiletto boots that include a leather bangle borrowed from the brand’s Bon Bon bag. Choi says the new shoes are “emblematic of how we create, proposing fantasies but always with real life at the core.”
Lines reminiscent of a matrix of city streets turn up in the quilting pattern of the house’s Avenue collection, the most recent addition to the Varenne family of handbags. The made-in-Italy matelassé pattern, mimicking hand-stitched quilts, appears on square quad, shoulder and clutch iterations of the bag. In pink with gold hardware, and also in gold, burgundy or black, the line even includes a pouch clutch and small leather goods—all part of an on-the-go aesthetic with lots of momentum. 250 N.
