There are two women currently restoring our faith in Hollywood glamour. Jodie Turner-Smith and Julianne Moore are both having excellent Venice Film Festivals and it’s only day two. From water taxi tailoring to directional photocall looks, the actors are putting their stamp on floating city chic and seemingly having a ball.
Last night’s official opening ceremony was a sequin strewn extravaganza, with Moore’s Valentino cape deserving a special mention. Her sheer tulle gown and superhero overlay were peppered with colorful paillettes that looked like fireworks on the star, and shone all the brighter with a smattering of Cartier jewelry. The message? There’s no sell-by date on this kind of fashion fantasy. You can wear a glittering cape however old you are. Visible big black knickers too.
Of course a glowing Julianne Moore, who swears by chlorophyll and keeping her face mobile, defied her 61 years. The actor’s new stylist Kate Young is a master of these tantalizingly sheer looks, which somehow seem demure thanks to all that dripping embellishment. Remember Dakota Johnson’s Gucci Met Gala catsuit? That was Kate’s work. Jennifer Lawrence’s tinsel-effect Dior maternity red-carpet wear? Yep, Young too. After Julianne’s Venice moment, we have a feeling more celebs will be calling up the power player.
