Taking a concept and developing the idea into a full story is an extremely valuable lesson. Barber Angela Hemmert (@thebarberita) a student at Hair Lab Detroit Barber School (@hairlabdetroitbarberschool), learned just that in her first photoshoot. Keep reading to see her first collection hear what she has to say about the process.
What was the inspiration behind the shoot?
After making a few tweaks, the inspiration for the style ended up being low-key post-apocalyptic. The style developed throughout the day and with each photo taken.
Was the styling agreed upon beforehand?
We had a wide variety of clothing in the wardrobe to choose from. We ran through a few different ideas as the models tried on various outfits and noticed how they gravitated towards certain styles and ran with that.
Was this your first photoshoot?
This was the first photo shoot for myself and most of the models. Jamael Kelly (praying hands) has had some previous experience doing model work.
Do you have any tips for staying organized?
The best tip I can give is to have an outline for the day but stay open to changes. Sometimes the best idea develops over time or doesn’t come until the last minute.
What was your favorite aspect of this collection? And/or the day of the photoshoot?
My favorite part of the photo shoot was styling the hair, but I also really loved watching how much the models enjoyed themselves.
