XOXO, Gossip Girl fans: More drama is on the way. The HBO Max reboot is officially coming back for a second season.
Like its predecessor, the reboot starring Jordan Alexander, Thomas Doherty, Whitney Peak, and Savannah Lee Smith took off in a major way after premiering in July 2021, making a second season seem inevitable.
“Gossip Girl saw record viewership over its first weekend on the platform and also took over Twitter in the No. 1 trending spot,” a press release for the show said. “The series had 15 billion total social impressions at launch and the series gained around 5.2 billion impressions from content inspired by the series on TikTok.”
Here’s everything we know so far about Gossip Girl season two.
A premiere date: On October 27, Teen Vogue announced that season two is dropping on December 1, 2022.
The cast: Expect to see all the familiar faces from season one: Jordan Alexander, Eli Brown, Thomas Doherty, Tavi Gevinson, Emily Alyn Lind, Evan Mock, Zion Moreno, Whitney Peak, and Savannah Lee Smith.
Grace Duah, who played Zoya’s friend Shan, has been upgraded to a series regular for season two. “There’s a major detail about her character that you learn, and as the season goes on, there’s romances and missed connections,” showrunner Josh Safran told Teen Vogue. “You meet Luna’s mother. You meet Monet’s dad. You already have met Monet’s mom. You meet Shan’s parents and her brother. The world just expands that much more.”
The plot: According to Teen Vogue, Season 2 will pick up right where season 1 left off. Julien (Alexander) is officially teaming up with Gossip Girl (Gevinson) as Monet (Smith) and Luna (Moreno) plan their “hostile takeover.” Meanwhile, Audrey (Lind), Max (Doherty), and Aki (Mock) are navigating the ups and downs of their new relationship.
