When the role of Victor did come along, you had the mustache, right?
Right. I’ve never shaved it since then.
How are you most like Victor and how are you least like Victor?
I look like him! But he has a lot more money than I do! And a much different lifestyle.
Are you a savvy businessman like him though?
Yes, I’m savvy. I’m just not rich like he is.
I would say you’re living comfortably though.
Yeah, very comfortably. The first question I ask anybody that wants to manage my money for me is, “Are you rich?” Because if you’re not, why the hell should I listen to you?! You should have a lot of money! The business managers that are good don’t want to talk to you unless you have a couple of million dollars.
What story line made you most anxious?
I dreaded a couple of them when we were doing a voyage to…we had a 200,000 gallon tank on stage four here. I just know we spent a lot of time in the water. I can’t for the life of me remember the story line. [Ed. note: It was the Cruise of Deception in 1990].
Who has been your favorite leading lady to work with?
I’ve been so lucky on this show with the leading ladies I’ve had. Every one of them have been fantastic. The ones that I have now…Suzanne, Lauren Koslow, Louise Sorel, Arianne Zucker, Deborah Adair, Judith Chapman. They are all phenomenal actresses—really exceptional.
Have you ever taken anything of Victor’s for your own house?
I have a couple of suits. [Laughs] The last suit I bought was from my first wedding, and that was such a disaster I haven’t bought one since.
A lot of now famous actors auditioned for Days of Our Lives when they first started out. Julia Roberts comes to mind. Would you ever ask your daughter, Jennifer, to come on the show even for an episode so dad and daughter could work together?
