One of the many reasons I know I would never be able to hack it as a princess is that I have never been able to wear a stiletto without the heel getting stuck somewhere and immediately falling on my face. But Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, handles even the indignity of having one’s spike heel sink into the soft mud with grace. She may not be able to defy the basic principles of physics, but, unlike me, she can recover from the occasional mishap without disaster.
The princess looked effortlessly chic, as always, in her monochrome camel outfit—which included an elegant handbag and matching pumps—visiting a local community center in Scarborough on November 3, per Express. In order to greet the crowd outside, Kate “bravely” traipsed across some muddy grass, where her heel became momentarily stuck in the ground. According to the Express, she seemed to struggle a bit to pull her shoe free, before returning to the assembled commoners with a smile. She did not, however, lose her balance and fall over. Per one local resident, “It was wonderful to see the Royal Couple, Kate was an absolute star braving the muddy grass to greet people.” I would have gone for a block heel on a muddy day, but I am not as daring as the princess.
Kate’s impractical but classy footwear matched her belted sweater-dress and camel overcoat, an otherwise perfect ensemble for a chilly November day. As usual, she wore her famously shiny hair down in long waves.
