The most meme-able royal just made his Christmas debut—and he took his style cues from his older sister.
For the first time, Prince Louis joined his parents, the Prince and Princess of Wales, and the rest of the royal family for their annual Christmas walk in Sandringham, Norfolk after morning services. While nine-year-old Prince George matched his father in a navy suit and blue tie and Kate Middleton re-wore her Alexander McQueen green military coat with a wide-brimmed hat, brown suede boots, and gloves, Prince Louis coordinated with his seven-year-old sister, Princess Charlotte.
Princess Charlotte wore the same burgundy double-breasted coat she wore to her mother’s second annual Christmas special, Together at Christmas. She paired the coat with black tights and mary-jane flats with her hair pulled back in a half up, half down twisted style. For his part, Louis wore the same coat in navy, which showed off the velvet details of the collar, pockets, and buttons.
Lest you think the pair simply matched coats, another photo revealed that Prince Louis was sporting a pair of velvet maroon shorts underneath his coat. His look was finished off with navy socks and black loafers. Per Harper’s Bazaar, it’s tradition for British aristocracy and royals to dress young boys in shorts, even in winter. “The usual custom is that a boy graduates to trousers around eight years old,” etiquette expert William Hanson told the publication in 2018.
