Lily-Rose Depp paid tribute to supermodel Kate Moss in a new photoshoot. The 23-year-old model and actor is featured on the cover of i-D‘s spring “Timeless” issue wearing a version of the sheer dress that basically invented the concept of the sheer dress. (See Lily-Rose in the look over at i-D.)
In 1993, Moss wore a completely sheer Liza Bruce dress to an event in London hosted by Elite Models. The then 19-year-old wore nothing underneath the silvery slip except a pair of black underwear. Moss wore little to no makeup, and styled her hair back in a ponytail. She accessorized with flip-flops (the only time they’ve ever been chic).
Lily-Rose, whose father, Johnny Depp, dated Moss from 1994 to 1998, was styled similarly to the supermodel. (Lily-Rose’s mother is French singer, model, and actor Vanessa Paradis). Like Moss, Lily-Rose also skipped the bra and wore black underwear. Like Moss, she wore little to no makeup and wore her hair in a casual updo. The only difference, really, is that Lily-Rose is holding a cigarette. And, unlike, Moss, she was probably aware that the dress was transparent.
“I did not know that the dress was see-through until the pictures came out the next day in the newspaper,” Moss recalled to British Vogue in 2022.
Lily-Rose Depp intentionally keeps her personal life personal, but she did address her nepo baby status (again) in the interview. “I’m so careful about these conversations now. I feel like my parents did the best job that they possibly could at giving me the most ‘normal childhood’ that they could,” she said. “And obviously, that still was not a normal childhood. I’m super aware of the fact that my childhood did not look like everybody’s. But at the same time, it’s all that I know, so I have had to find comfort in it somehow. I’m really lucky that I’ve been surrounded by people who value normalcy and who value real life and I think that’s the only way to exist in this world and not go insane.”
