Everyone has that one teen crush they never forget about. Mine was a boy in my theater class in 10th grade. For Melissa Joan Hart, it was Ryan Reynolds.
Hart told the hosts of the Hey Dude… The 90s Called! podcast—fellow former Nickelodeon stars David Lascher and Christine Taylor—that she had romantic connections with two of the stars of the Nickelodeon show Fifteen: Corky Martin and Ryan Reynolds. “I dated Corky and kind of had a little thing with Ryan.” She explained that she met Martin at a Nickelodeon event, “And then I worked on Ryan Reynolds on the first Sabrina movie. The first movie we did, Ryan was in it.” Before there was a Sabrina the Teenage Witch TV show there was a Sabrina the Teenage Witch movie, which starred Reynolds as Sabrina’s first love interest.

While the podcast hosts seemed surprised that Hart and Reynolds hooked up as teens, it’s not the first time the Clarissa Explains It All star has mentioned it. In 2017, she told Australia’s Studio 10, “We were smitten and cute,” adding, “He was adorable. He was a really nice guy.” In 2014, Hart told E! News‘s Giuliana Rancic the whole story. According to Hart, on the last day of filming, Reynolds gave her an expensive Bulova watch as a present, which seemed to confirm to her that he really had been flirting all along, even though she had a boyfriend at the time. “I chased him down, got in front of his car and just kissed him and then made out with him all night,” she said. “Then I had to call my boyfriend the next day and explain it.”
And now I’m just pondering the alternate universe where Melissa Joan Hart and Ryan Reynolds are married with kids and producing more coffee commercials together.
