Dom Pérignon and Lady Gaga announce second chapter of collaboration in creative dialogue about passionate work
With sweeping shots of shifting shadows, a transcending dance performance and dramatic juxtaposition, Lady Gaga takes to her piano as Dom Pérignon takes to the vineyards in the moody, dramatic film announcing their latest campaign. Created at the birthplace of the champagne, the film expresses the intimate creative dialogue between the two artists, focusing on the contrasts between tradition and modernism, intimacy and grandiose and shadows and lights to reveal a new aesthetic realized through a passionate, shared vision on the act of creation.
With art realized by photographer Mario Sorrenti, composer and director Woodkidd (Yoann Lemoine), and choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, the collaboration focuses on two forms – the visual performance and the highly anticipated Dom Pérignon Vintage 2013. After ten years of maturation, the Dom Pérignon Vintage 2013 achieves a sought-after harmony in a rare late-harvest vintage – one of the only two late harvest wines in the past two decades. The result is a complex, delicate, and classic Dom Pérignon Vintage marked by an elegant clarity, and one that has inspired Lady Gaga and Dom Pérignon to showcase their boundless creativity in the film, bridging their disparate worlds through their shared common ambition of creative labor.
The campaign was born in France, shot at and inspired by the grandeur of the Abbey at Hautvillers and reflective of the history of the vintage Champagne brand that spans back to 1668 when Dom Pierre Pérignon, was appointed cellarer and procurator at the Abbey of Hautvillers, overlooking Champagne. With the quest to create the “best wine in the world”, Dom Pierre Pérignon planted the seeds of perfection vine-growing and winemaking that defines the brand today. It was there that Lady Gaga found inspiration, sharing, “When you look at pictures of the abbey, its cloister, the traces of centuries engraved in the stone,” says Lady Gaga. “You can feel that dedication that must have animated generations of monks that lived and worked here. It is truly a special and inspirational place.”
On the creation of a Vintage, Chef de Cave Vincent Chaperon shares, “Creating is about taking risks, making commitments, and accepting vulnerability.” For the known risk-taker Lady Gaga, this collaboration comes as an opportunity to further the desire to dare, cross boundaries and experiment with art with a brand similarly dedicated to that same pursuit.
