Priyanka Chopra got real about her dating history on the latest episode of the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepard. When her now-husband Nick Jonas made the first move and slid into her Twitter DMs, she was nearing the end of a rocky relationship with an unnamed ex.
“I was in a tumultuous relationship at that time,” Chopra recalled. “This is ’16. We had common friends who didn’t want me to be in my relationship and were like, ‘Oh, he’s single too.’ He’s really not with that girl, but he is. It was complicated on both our ends.”
Regarding Jonas, Chopra said she “didn’t want to engage as much at the time” in large part due to their ten-year age gap.
“I was also like 35, Nick was 25,” she continued. “I really put a stop to it in a way because I judged the book by the cover. I said, ‘I wanna settle down. I have been there and done the fun dating things.’ I was, like, ready to get serious.”
The two kept in touch through “random texts” until they finally met in person a week before attending the 2017 Met Gala together as guests of designer Ralph Lauren. Chopra proceeded with caution at first, having previously dated people who tended to be “a little bit narcissistic.”
