The Y2K style renaissance has sparked the revival of various nostalgic trends and cult pieces from the era–moto jackets being one such example. Originally endorsed by the likes of Victoria Beckham, colorful vintage versions have proven popular among Gen-Z shoppers, and now do the rounds on Depop and eBay. Multiple brands, meanwhile, have attempted to replicate the buzzy appeal of moto jackets on the runways.
While teens and 20-somethings may have fallen for the hero piece, Cher–who is 76 years old—proves the trend can work at any age. The singer recently took a purple, black, and white moto for a spin on the red carpet, at a special screening of Chevalier. At the event, held on April 16, she wore the cropped moto jacket slightly unzipped with a grey puffer coat over the top, paired with wide-leg trousers.
For many years, leather jackets have been a staple for the star–and her latest outing affirms that they remain a signature in her later life. Cher famously wore a biker jacket in the official music video for “If I Could Turn Back Time,” and on stage to sing the smash-hit track for her Farewell tour, layered atop a bejeweled “Swiss cheese bodysuit” by her longtime collaborator Bob Mackie. The star even paid homage to her beloved staple at the CFDA Awards last year and arrived in a hybrid biker jacket-cum-dress by Chrome Hearts. Cher never fails to deliver edgy style with a twist.
