Dakota Johnson either missed the stealth-wealth memo or she’s simply too rich and chic to abide by the whims of TikTok fashion analysts.
Between Gwyneth Paltrow’s courtroom style, Succession season five, and the Sofia Richie wedding that seemingly went viral out of nowhere, fashion appears to be moving away from the colorful Y2K-inspired fever dream of 2022 into a “quiet luxury” aesthetic featuring streamlined capsule wardrobes filled with muted, logo-less pieces befitting of the uber-wealthy with nothing to prove. Well, try telling that to Dakota Johnson.
On April 27, the 33-year-old actor hit the streets of New York City in one of her signature Gucci-heavy ensembles, this time rocking a pair of luxe logo trousers and black loafers emblazoned with the fashion house’s name in bold gold lettering. She paired the business casual look with a cropped white T-Shirt, black sunglasses, a black Gucci tote bag, and a black blazer folded over her arm.
This outfit, though obviously expensive, tailored, and made from high-quality materials, is far from quiet. This look says, “Fuck stealth wealth.” Unlike Gigi Hadid’s $1,975 white mini bag from IYKYK designer Loro Piana, this look says, “If I’m going to pay $1,650 on a pair of pants, you’re going to damn well know about it.” The same goes for the shoes, which will run you $1,050 on Net-A-Porter.
Frankly, I love this for her. No matter which way the winds of the fickle fashion industry blow, we should all be wearing what makes us feel our best, whether that’s utilitarian shoulder bags, Barbiecore minidresses, or office-appropriate logomania…If, of course, you can afford that last one.
