Elle Fanning may be newly single, but she hasn’t given up on love just yet.
The actor confirmed that she is not currently dating anyone during an interview with Harper Bazaar’s UK after recently coming out of a long-term relationship with fellow actor Max Minghella. But despite recently going through heartbreak, Fanning admitted, “I’m a hopeless romantic. I believe in love at first sight. Call me crazy, but I believe in those things. I feel that it’s my destiny.” She also added that ten years from now she’d “love to play Grace Kelly in something. And to have kids.”
The Great star, 24, and Minghella, 37, first met in 2018 on the set of the movie Teen Spirit. In the film, which was written and directed by Minghella, Fanning plays a Polish teenager who dreams of becoming a pop idol. That summer, the two actors sparked romance rumors after they were spotted on a walk together through London, making their red carpet debut at the 2019 Met Gala. And while the couple has kept their relationship largely out of the spotlight, that same year, Fanning told Entertainment Tonight that Minghella was “such a good friend” and their time working together was “very special.”
The director also told the outlet that Elle Fanning was “the only actress who could have carried” the story due to the “incredible list of requirements.” He explained, “You have to be able to sing, you have to be able to dance, you’ve got to, you know, be able to speak Polish convincingly, do the British accent, play the age range and carry the movie with an incredibly nuanced performance. It’s a lot for one person, and she just handled everything with such discipline and professionalism and she never complained.”
The couple’s breakup seems to be relatively recent considering that they attended the Los Angeles premiere of Babylon together in December and, in January, a source told Us Weekly that the pair were “super solid.” The insider explained that they are both “very private people,” but have “been serious for a good while” and keeping their relationship out of the limelight has “suited them” both. “The age difference isn’t an issue at all. Elle loves how mature and intelligent Max is. He’s a real intellect with a big passion for arts and culture,” they added, noting that they’ve “really bonded over” their shared interests. The source mistakingly concluded, “Nobody would be surprised if Max proposes soon. Elle would most likely love that too, but he’s keeping those cards close to his chest.”
