If you thought Emma Stone’s Cruella transformation was dramatic, just wait until you see her in the first look at Poor Things. You’d think the Disney villain’s trademark half-black-half-white ‘do would render Stone unrecognizable, but it’s her latest hair transformation that has me double-checking her IMDB credits.
On April 28, Searchlight Pictures released the first photos from their upcoming take on the Frankenstein trope. Per Deadline, Stone is set to star as Bella Baxter, “a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter,” who is played by Willem Dafoe. The description continues, “Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.”
Directed by The Favourite’s Yorgos Lanthimos, Poor Things will premiere on September 8. Stone is also credited as a producer.
In one photo, Stone can be seen with an ultralong black wig and matching dark brows—a drastic departure from her signature red bob and wispy bangs, which she rocked throughout March.
Emma Stone is not the only actor who recently underwent a significant hair transformation for a role. Cara Delevigne looks like a completely different person with rich brunette waves and blunt bangs for the upcoming season of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story.
