Halle Bailey attended the Australian premiere of ‘The Little Mermaid’ held at the State Theatre on Monday (May 22) in Sydney.
All of us were worried about this promo tour, but we were given hope when she stepped onto the red carpet for the Met Gala, and then the world premiere.
But since then, the looks have veered down a costumey path, with this bespoke Off-White gown being the most costumey of them all.
This feels very old fashioned to me.
I’m surprised and disappointed by the lack of creativity, especially from a label such as Off-White, plus the bodice doesn’t look very well made.
While I understand that she is appealing to a younger demographic – my five-year-old niece for example, who would love this dress – but it seems like a costume you’ve seen on Broadway or the West End for ‘Frozen.’
The colour is beautiful on Halle, so I would rather a bias-cut gown in this colour and fabric.
As always, the sketch had potential. It’s a shame it wasn’t executed well.
