Helen Mirren may already have an Academy Award, four BAFTA awards, three Golden Globes, five Emmys, and one Tony Award—atop a handful of accolades—but the actor’s latest look at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival proves she deserves (at least) one more for best beauty transformation. And probably another for best Cannes red-carpet look of all time.
The L’oreal ambassador, who is known for embracing her silver and gray strands, debuted a blazing blue updo at the premiere of her Jeanne du Barry—and I am now of the firm belief that this is the look that matters (sorry, Met Gala attendees). Not only was her coiffure iconic—and in bold defiance of trivial age-based beauty standards—but served as a theme for the entire show-stopping ensemble.
The 77-year-old sported a baby blue, deep V-cut, floor-length Del Core gown and pastel blue nail polish that matched her new shade. She completed the look with pink lipstick, diamond jewelry, and sparkling silver shoes, proving that mermaid-meets-princess vibes are always in vogue….and suitable for all ages. TBH, if I didn’t know any better, I would think my fairy godmother—and/or an IRL mermaid—had just emerged from the French Riviera and found her way to the famed Croisette de Cannes.
As of now, it’s unclear who styled the The Queen star’s updo, though it’s likely it was created using L’Oreal products due to her ambassadorship with the brand. (Peep the #WorthIt fan.)
This isn’t the first time Helen Mirren has surprised fans with brightly-colored hair at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2019, the Oscar winner rocked a cotton candy pink pixie on the red-carpet.
