Between the amount of black dresses, especially black velvet dresses we’ve seen on the red carpet this week, Hailey Bieber’s recent California street style look while grabbing a coffee with Justine Skye at Community Goods in West Hollywood, has me thanking the fashion gods that June gloom is coming to an end.
The model wore a Bottega Veneta slip dress which is surprisingly from the Fall 2023 collection.
Slip dresses have stood the test of time, and become a true timeless staple, despite the trendiness of the piece ebbing and flowing much like any fashion cycle.
There was a time when slips were worn underneath dresses, like an insurance policy, allowing dresses made from clingy materials to hang properly.
They were also worn under sheer garments for coverage, but now going sheer is a trend all by itself.
There was also a time when slip dresses were considered lingerie, but thanks to the likes of Kate Moss, Iman, Sarah Jessica Parker and Wynona Ryder, the slip dress can be seen on the red carpet and on your high street.
