Did you hear? The Bergdorf Goodman designer sale is on now, offering discounts as high as 70%. The deals are available in BG’s flagship New York store and on the high-end retailer’s website, now through July 4. Which means if you like a good deal on designer goods, you’d better act fast.
What’s Bergdorf Goodman?
Bergdorf Goodman is a luxury department store with a storied history. In 1899, Bergdorf, a French immigrant, opened a tailor shop on New York’s Fifth Avenue. The shop was a quick hit. Two years later, founder Bergdorf partnered with Edwin Goodman to expand the business.
By 1914, the store had moved to a larger location and begun offering women’s ready-to-wear garments. BG’s customer was the rich New Yorker who demanded luxury and sophistication. In the decades that followed, the Bergdorf Goodman store would expand its high-end collection and swanky clientele.
Neiman Marcus acquired Bergdorf Goodman in 1990 and the iconic brand launched its online store in 1999. Today, Bergdorf Goodman continues to be a destination for high-end clothes, beauty products, and home goods.
8 best picks from the 2023 Bergdorf Goodman Designer Sale
Here’s a word of caution before I get into the best designer picks from BG’s sale: If you normally shop Kohl’s and TJ Maxx, even BG’s sale prices a tad shocking. But maybe you just got a bonus from work or your wealthy aunt has asked you what you want for your birthday. Or you’re in the mood for daydreaming.
Whatever the case, the discounted designer picks below can either add some pizazz to your wardrobe or some inspiration for shopping lower-priced pieces.
1. Proenza Schoeler tie dye tee
I’d call this a grown-up version of tie-dye. No rainbows or circles, just a pretty black and gray design that upgrades the standard cotton t-shirt. Wear this top with jeans or a denim skirt and sandals for a polished, but low-maintenance vibe.
2. Jason Wu sleeveless gown
Oh, how I wish I had a formal occasion on the calendar. This elegant sleeveless, A-line gown from Jason Wu is classically beautiful. Flattering lace insets at the neck and waist add interest so you hardly need accessories. A pair of pretty earrings and a clutch will do the job.
Reach for this gown when you’re headed to a fundraiser, formal evening wedding, or the opera. Add in a delicate pair of gunmetal gray or clear strappy heels.
3. Vince shirtdress
A menswear-inspired shirtdress can get a lot of use in your rotation, especially if you’re working in an office. Notably, it has a tie in the back, so you can customize the fit around your waist.
Team this dress with a colorful neck scarf, heeled loafers, and your best briefcase for all-business style. You can easily switch that look to off-duty by swapping out the shoes and bag. This dress is preppy class, no matter how you wear it.
4. Nili Lotan jeans
You don’t need advice from me on how to wear jeans. Just know that it’s useful to have a quality pair of straight-leg jeans on hand. They’re ideal for casual occasions when you must make a good impression or you’re hanging with an upscale crowd.
This pair is high-rise, five-pocket style with a relaxed fit through the leg.
5. The Row clutch bag
Thank Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen for this elegant bag made of nubuck leather in a gorgeous mauve. The Olsen twins’ brand, The Row, gives us a new interpretation of the clutch, with a sleeve you can easily loop your arm through. Or, fold over the top section and carry it as a traditional clutch.
6. Vaquera wide-leg pants
High-waist, wide-leg, and crop hem can be an incredibly flattering and chic combo. These trousers have a little something extra too — a lace-up back to get that perfect fit around your midsection.
I’d pair these pants with loafers, a sleek blouse, and one piece of fine jewelry for a gallery tour or a posh dinner. You could also wear them to work with a button-down.
7. CO sweater vest
CO’s collared silk sweater vest is an all-season player. Wear it alone on a warmer day or as a layer, buttons open or closed, on cooler days. The rich blue hue is a head-turner and the silk construction adds a touch of luxury to your day.
8. Balenciaga sunnies
Classic black sunnies are always in style, especially when they have a high-end logo on them. These offer 100% UVA/UVB protection for your eyes, plus wide arms for even more coverage. This shape — the sleek cateye — is more versatile and less pretentious than the giant, face-covering sunglasses some designers like to make.
