Working will not break the soul of The Devil Wears Prada star Emily Blunt. The British actor, who you can see in Oppenheimer on “Barbieheimer Day,” July 21, appeared on the Table for Two podcast with Bruce Bozzi to reveal that she’s taking a break from acting in 2023. “This year, I’m not working,” she said, per Page Six.
“I worked quite a bit last year and my oldest baby is nine, so we’re in the last year of single digits. And I just feel there are cornerstones to their day that are so important when they’re little.” The actor is married to The Office star John Krasinski, and they have two children together: Hazel, nine, and Violet, six.
“The [projects] that are time consuming, I think for me, are becoming fewer and further between because of the emotional cost on me, on the kids,” she shared.
Blunt explained that there is an “emotional cost” for herself and her children when she works on long and intense projects, and that she is “very prone to guilt.”
“I think maybe all mothers are,” she said. “You’re just prone to feeling bad for, God forbid, wanting something outside of being a mother. I am a huge advocate for it—I’m a huge advocate for women being ambitious. It’s just dreams with purpose, it’s not an ugly word,” she said. Blunt has several projects that are either completed or in post-production, including The Fall Guy and Pain Hustlers.
Emily Blunt and John Krasinski have been married since 2010. She plays Kitty Oppenheimer, the wife of Robert Oppenheimer (played by Cillian Murphy) in Christopher Nolan’s epic Oppenheimer, which hits theaters next weekend, the same day as Barbie.
