Pierpaolo Piccioli dressed eight celebrities in Valentino for The Fashion Awards 2023 which were held in London on Monday (December 4).
This was a painful red carpet, so I’m thankful to the fashion gods blessing us with Anne Hathaway, who was one of the few who looked graceful on this red carpet.
Considering the actress’ history with the fashion label, I wasn’t surprised to see her delve into the Valentino archives to select this gown from the Spring 1993 Haute Couture collection.
To call this ethereal elegance isn’t hyping this moment up enough, but what I love most about this look is how it strikes the perfect balance between past and present, as this could just as easily have been from the most recent Valentino Haute Couture collection.
I would love to see Anne consider archive looks more often, but I understand that the house might wish to preserve pieces like this.
Looking back on this collection, I would love to see more from it.

Elizabeth Saltzman went deeper into the Valentino archives to select this from the Valentino Fall 1965/66 Haute Couture collection for Gwyneth Paltrow.
It’s almost hard to believe that this red chiffon gown styled with a feather and crystal embellished coat is 57 years old, which is 6 years older than Gwyneth herself.
Can you imagine how much fun it would be to go into what I believe would be an aircraft hangar set to a certain temperature with racks and racks of gowns going back decades, and selecting the best looks for your client?
Sign me up for that job.

I’m getting a “nothing we haven’t seen before” feel. Her Instagram looks are more inspiring than this.

You may be surprised, but the only thing I don’t like about FKA Twigs Valentino look from the Spring Summer 2024 L’Ecole collection, are those Valentino Garavani platforms.
The dress says FKA Twigs, while the shoes say Paris Hilton – Kate Beckinsale. The styles don’t mix.

Wow. That is the first thing I said when I saw Gillian Anderson in this Valentino Haute Couture dress from the Fall Winter 2023 Un Chateau collection.
That lush red velvet and the drapery have me in a headlock.
Are we about to step into a new fashion era for Gillian? Is the Gabriela Hearst / Chloe era over?
