Netflix premieres the YA series, My Life with the Walter Boys, this Thursday, which is its version of The Summer I Turned Pretty meets The Fosters meets Party of Five. Based on the best-selling book of the same name by author Ali Novak, the series comes from the producers of The Kissing Booth, and follows 15-year-old Jackie as she must pack up and leave her life of privilege in New York City following the tragic death of her parents.
She moves to rural Colorado with the large boisterous Walter family (Suits star Sarah Rafferty plays her mom’s best friend and now guardian). Once she gets her bearings, she becomes entangled in a love triangle with two of the Walter boys, resulting in a lot of mixed signals, teenage angst, and hormones.
It’s an easy binge, perfect for a lazy Sunday, and will help fill that Virgin River scenic void (you know what I’m talking about). Speaking of Virgin River, if you finished watching the two holiday episodes that premiered last Thursday, check out my interview with showrunner/EP Patrick Sean Smith here to find out the story behind Mel’s father, and when season six might premiere.
Meanwhile, Dancing with the Stars airs its finale this Tuesday as the five remaining couples battle it out on the ballroom floor. It’s the first time there’s been that many couples heading into the finale. Will it be Alyson Hannigan and Sasha Farber, Ariana Madix and Pasha Pashkov, Charity Lawson and Artem Chigvintsev, Jason Mraz and Daniella Karagach, or Xochitl Gomez and Val Chmerkovskiy?
There’s also plenty of holiday movies this week. Freeform continues its 25 Days of Christmas (you can view the schedule here), while Lifetime and Hallmark keep cranking out the hits. Hanukkah starts on Thursday this week, so stay tuned next Sunday for one of Hallmark’s best movies yet centering on the Festival of Lights.
