Ahead of Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2024 haute couture show on Tuesday, the house has released a short film titled “The Button”.
“Beauty within the imperfection of time.” That is the theme of Chanel’s short film “The Button” as it follows friend of the house Margaret Qualley who makes an almost fairy tale-like trip to Paris to have a missing button on her Chanel jacket replaced. The story’s fairy godmother? Naomi Campbell, who hands her a much needed train ticket. Qualley finds her way to 31 rue Cambon – the address of Chanel’s legendary flagship boutique – and learns that there’s more than meets the eye with her missing button.
Visually intriguing and upbeat, “The Button” follows Chanel’s long-running tradition of releasing short films before a show that often act as teasers. This season’s release sees Kendrick Lamar lending his musical prowess to the film’s music, with the imaginary story served by his multidisciplinary creative company, pgLang, and written and directed by his longtime collaborator Dave Free. Lamar was previously spotted attending Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2024 haute couture show back in July 2023 and rumours of a collaboration between the house and the rapper-singer-songwriter have been buzzing ever since.
And, with that, the stage for Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2024 haute couture show is set. Catch the show live on 23 January, Tuesday at 9pm, Singapore time (2pm, Paris time) on chanel.com.
