Ashley Park revealed she went into “critical septic shock” while vacationing in the Maldives with her Emily in Paris costar and boyfriend, Paul Forman. The health scare happened over the New Year holiday, according to an Instagram post Park shared on January 19.
“While on holiday in December into New Years, what started as tonsillitis spiraled into critical septic shock, which infected and affected several of my organs,” she captioned a series of photos and clips chronicling her hospital stay. “I am grateful that my health has improved despite what we had initially been told.”
The Broadway entertainer expressed gratitude first to Forman for supporting her “unconditionally” in recovery.
“You calmed my fears and held me through ambulances, three foreign hospitals, a week in the ICU, scary ERs, countless scans and tests and injections, excruciating pain, and so much confusion all while we were alone on the other side of the world far from those we know,” she wrote. “I love you Paul. More than I can ever say.”

Ashley Park also doled out shout-outs to the ICU nurses and doctors who worked “tirelessly,” as well as the Joali Being resort staff who “responding immediately and [stayed] with me to provide language translations and vital support.” Park added that she is still healing but “safely on the other side of the worst.”
“I promise I’m gonna be okay,” she vowed at the end of the post.
Forman is best known for starring in the third season of Emily in Paris as Nicolas de Léon, the romantic interest for Park’s character, Mindy Chen.
