Jennifer Lawrence may not have won her category at Sunday’s Golden Globes—that honor went to her friend Emma Stone, and Lawrence cheered her heart out when it was announced—but she certainly had her golden moment, donning a ’70s-style velvet gown and coat for the HBO after party at the Chateau Marmont. A black clutch completed the outfit, which was a change-up from the beaded clutch she was carrying earlier. See, this is the upside to not winning. You don’t have to haul around a heavy statue all night.
How…exactly…is she not tripping over the material around her feet? It’s so much material. Is she in flip-flops again? (The answer is no, she’s wearing metallic heeled sandals and is apparently just really good at heels.)
Lawrence seemed to channel the glam rock look as she stepped out with husband Cooke Maroney, who wore black. Maybe she was inspired by Daisy Jones & The Six, which also lost its category that night but served looks in every episode. On Instagram, Lawrence’s stylist Jamie Mizrahi identified the gown, which drapes over rather than hugs her figure, as a Proenza Schouler, and reports that the coat is vintage Bill Blass. The brown fur collar may be vintage, but it’s also on-trend, as fur (ideally faux, if buying new) is so back.
