Why Did Rosamund Pike Wear a Black Veil to the 2024 Golden Globes?

The Golden Globes are traditionally known as the biggest party in Hollywood, but Rosamund Pike’s look at the 2024 awards was a little more funereal than celebratory. This is mostly because she accessorized her black lace tea dress with a black fascinator veil like an Italian widow’s in the 1960s. According to Pike, she wasn’t just trying to channel her inner Moira Rose with this look. The veil had a practical purpose.

Asked by Variety’s Marc Malkin if her headgear was a hat or a helmet or something, Pike responded gravely, “It’s a protective veil.” She explained, “I had an accident over Christmas, actually. I had a skiing accident.” Pike said that on the 27th of December her face was “entirely smashed up” which is “not what you want when you’re coming to the Golden Globes.”
