Lainey Wilson is a first-time Grammy nominee, but the country star looked right at home on the red carpet before the awards show on Sunday. With the help of stylist Karla Welch, the “Watermelon Moonshine” singer certainly dressed the part of future Grammy winner in a custom black Balmain ensemble comprising a tuxedo blazer, a plunging waistcoat studded with gold buttons, black bell-bottoms, and a matching black Charlie 1 cowboy hat. According to E!’s Zana Roberts Rossi, the look was inspired by country royalty Johnny Cash.
Three chunky gold chains from Pomellato and a diamond cocktail ring added a touch of sparkle to the otherwise understated look. But I’m particularly partial to the soft pink glow and graphic black cat eyeliner created for Wilson by makeup artist Nikki DeRoest, which paired perfectly with the singer’s halo of soft blonde mermaid waves.
Then again Lainey Wilson is no stranger to winning big awards. The 31-year-old’s Grammys debut follows her historic sweep at the CMA Awards in November, where she won album of the year for Bell Bottom Country, female vocalist of the year, vocal event of the year, video of the year, and the coveted CMA entertainer of the year award, making her the first woman in more than a decade to achieve that particular honor.
