The Idea of You, starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine, is based on the novel of the same name and follows a divorced mom (Hathaway) who unexpectedly falls for the lead singer of a pop band. The story is sexy, spicy, and full of tension, and it appears Amazon Studios’ adaptation won’t be sanitizing it. Thank goodness.
The first trailer for the very adult rom-com just dropped and shows Anne Hathaway’s character, Solène, lounging comfortably in the arms of 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Galitzine) as she recounts the tale of their meet-cute at Coachella, which Solène was attending with her daughter Izzy, played by Ella Rubin (whom you may recognize as one of the transfer minions in the Gossip Girl reboot).
The trailer is set to “Dance Before We Walk,” one of the songs from the movie’s fictional boy band, August Moon. We also hear a bit of a track called “Closer,” and it sounds pretty good! Amazon has a solid track record of making real music for fake bands. Daisy Jones and the Six’s in-universe album Aurora was a banger.
Um…the chemistry? The tension? The kissing? His visit to her art shop is so Notting Hill, and that’s a compliment.
You may have heard that The Idea of You was inspired by the relationship between Olivia Wilde and Harry Styles, but no, it wasn’t. Hayes Campbell is for sure inspired by Styles, but author Robinne Lee also looked at British heartthrobs like Prince Harry and based much of the story on her own romance with a younger man.
