Following the news that Beyonce’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ album is Spotify’s most-streamed in one day this year, the singer attended the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Awards on Monday, where she picked up the Innovator Award.
During her acceptance speech the singer said, “Innovation starts with a dream, but then you have to execute that dream and that road can be very bumpy. Being an innovator is saying what everyone believes is impossible. Being an innovator often means being criticized, which often will test your mental strength. Being an innovator is leaning on faith and trusting that God will catch you and guide you. So, to all the record labels, every radio station, every award show, my hope is that we’re more open to the joy and liberation that comes from enjoying art, with no preconceived notions.”
Beyonce has selected looks from Pharrell Williams’ blowout western themed Louis Vuitton show, but on this occasion she opted to pull from the Versace archives, wearing a western-style zipped leather jacket with golden Medusa details, studded leather gilet, and crystal-embellished leather pants from the Versace Fall 1992 collection.
Judging by your recent comments on Zendaya’s promo tour for ‘Challengers,’ I get the feeling that some are not on board with themed promo tours.
As you know I love it. I love how celebrities can tell a story without saying anything at all.
Whether that’s Margot Robbie’s pink-themed Barbie promo tour, Mia Goth’s Dolce & Gabbana Widow for ‘Pearl’ or Amber Heard’s Valentino Haute Couture swim cap for ‘Aquaman.’
In this case, Beyonce is not only selling her album, but she is also celebrating her southern country roots.
If you look back at Beyonce and her Destiny’s Child outfits over the years for photoshoots, videos, red carpets and tours, a cowboy hat and western themes have always been part of her history.
Did the Versace Medusa accented pointed boots, Medusa cowboy hat, and stacked double belts oversell the look?
Yes. In the best possible way.
