In a legitimately shocking turn of events, Gerry Turner, the inaugural Golden Bachelor, and his wife Theresa Nist are divorcing just three months after getting married on national television.
Of course, after a televised wedding, it’s only natural that the two have a televised breakup announcement, too. On April 12, the couple appeared on Good Morning America, where they gave a joint interview about their decision to part ways.
“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation and so forth, and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage,” Turner said, while Nist nodded.

Both Turner, 73, and Nist, 70, claim that it was not a lack of love that led them to the decision to split (in fact, they gave their interview while holding hands (!)), but the distance. Nist lives in New Jersey, while Turner lives in his lake house in Indiana. The two had planned to move in together, and even looked at homes in New Jersey and South Carolina, “but but we never got to the point where we made that decision,” Nist said.
Ultimately, notes Turner, “The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations, it’s been how dedicated both of us our to our families. So we look at these conversations and we both think it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart.”
