On Friday, the Save Venice ‘Un Ballo in Maschera: La Primavera’ event was held at The Plaza Hotel in New York City, sponsored by Oscar de la Renta and The Gritti Palace, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Venice.

The event, themed La Primavera and attended by over 400 guests, raised more than $1.2 million for the preservation of historic art and architecture in Venice, Italy

The sold-out black-tie affair saw attendees immersed in the celebration of springtime in Venice, drawing inspiration from the vibrant palette of artworks by Renaissance artist Paolo Veronese in the Venetian Church of San Sebastiano, a restoration project funded by Save Venice, which will reach its triumphant conclusion next month after 17 years of meticulous conservation.

Creative Directors of Oscar de la Renta, Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, presided over the Ceremony for Outstanding Masks, awarding prizes donated by Oscar de la Renta, The Gritti Palace, A Luxury Collection Hotel, Venice, and Save Venice.

Jordan Roth won in the category of Most Creative, which I’m sure no one is surprised about.

Stephen Jones created this colourful masterpiece which resembles a flame.

Not that I think it is possible, but I wonder if Jordan’s overall look would have been more dramatic if the mask featured the colours from his Schiaparelli Fall 2023 Haute Couture high-waisted multi-coloured embroidered skirt.

If you are wondering, yes, that is a trompe-l’œil breast moulded onto the top.

Emily Ratajkowski will always do Emily Ratajkowski, which is why this black cut-out Celia Kritharioti Couture slit to the hip-bone dress comes as no surprise.

What is also not a surprise, is how sensational she looks in it.

Giuseppe Zanotti Intriigo Claire sandals completed her look.

Nicky Rothschild was both whimsical and charming in her Oscar de la Renta draped poppies chiffon strapless gown from the Pre-Fall 2024 collection which had a fairy-tale element to it.

This was enhanced by the styling of the matching mask and tiara, which is exactly what you want at a themed event like this.

Jenna Lyons’ exquisite Oscar de la Renta gown saw ostrich feathers and a dramatic silhouette joining forces to create a show stopping statement.

Sylva Yepremian jewels completed her look.

Di Mondo gave Jordan Roth a run for his money in both the style and mask department wearing a floral look designed by Eric Javits.

Did they peak too early?
