Huge news, Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon fans. The first photos of Jim Parsons as Sheldon and Mayim Bialik as Amy on the series finale of Young Sheldon are here, and they are epic.
In March 2024, it was announced that Parsons and Bialik—who played Sheldon Cooper and Amy Farrah Fowler on the series that started it all—will reunite for the first time since The Big Bang Theory‘s series finale in 2019. The pair will reprise their roles for yet another series finale, joining the cast of Young Sheldon as they take their final bow on Thursday, May 16. (Warning: Basic Big Bang Theory spoilers beyond this point.)
For seven seasons the prequel series Young Sheldon followed the childhood origin story of theoretical physicist Sheldon Cooper, played by Iain Armitage. However, before audiences fell in love with the entire Cooper family, they were introduced to adult Sheldon through Jim Parsons on The Big Bang Theory, which aired for 12 seasons from 2007 to 2019.
During the course of the hit sitcom, viewers watched as Sheldon fell in love with neuroscientist Amy Farrah Fowler, beginning with a blind date in the season-three finale, “The Lunar Excitation,” which also marked Bialik’s first appearance on the series. “Shamy” became a fan-favorite couple as their love story survived ups and downs, including breakups, love confessions, and a wedding in season 11.
In The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series, Parsons and Bialik detailed in great length what it was like bringing their characters to life, especially since Bialik’s Amy wasn’t widely loved by the audience in the beginning. (There’s also a dedicated chapter to Young Sheldon in the book, which came out in paperback last October).
And now, ahead of Young Sheldon‘s series finale on Thursday, May 16—which will consist of two back-to-back episodes—CBS and Warner Bros. has released three images showing Parsons and Bialik reprising their roles as Sheldon and Amy. If you’ll notice, there’s plenty of Easter eggs in each photo, from the DNA structure that was a mainstay in Sheldon and Leonard’s—and then Leonard and Penny’s—apartment to Sheldon’s laptop to the Nobel. Take a look!
