H&M created the custom looks inspired by the ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion’ themed event where the Met Gala dress code was ‘The Garden of Time.’
The design team were inspired by the ultra-femininity of late 1940’s and 50’s fashion, the H&M archives gave way to modern takes with dramatic, embellished looks in soft, romantic shades inspired by this year’s theme.
The ‘50s inspiration was for all to see in Hari Nef custom H&M column gown which channels old-school opulence, with a waist-cinching, floor-skimming silhouette overlaid with both translucent and mother-of-pearl style paillettes and sequins.
The timeless romance is enhanced by a sweeping cream taffeta bow which was left to trail poetically as she glided down the red carpet.
In terms of impactful looks, Paloma Elsesser’s H&M custom two-piece had me feeling she was headed out to battle as the oxidised green sculptural metallic bodice embellished with 3D-printed calla lily flowers almost feels medieval.
I wish I didn’t see the waistband of her champagne-coloured silk taffeta bubble hem skirt.
Awkwafina wore a H&M custom gown that draws directly on an archival “Hennes” tulip skirt wedding dress.
I love the silhouette, but I wish the off-the-shoulder neckline didn’t dominate this look.
Quannah Chasinghorse always leaves a lasting impression on the Met Gala red carpet.
At first glance, this custom H&M gown might feel Disney-esque with the forget-me-not blue hue, and the ballerina-length, but the silhouette draws on the explosive power of a flower in bloom, and this specific shade honours her homeland Alaska’s state flower.
Quannah chose to accessorize her look with a beaded and tufted floral belt and earrings, both made by Indigenous designer Heather Dickson of Dickson Designs.
Adwoa Aboah wore H&M custom two-piece creation featuring ruffles resembling petals, styled with a voluminous bubble-hem skirt which lent an effortlessly modern edge to this charm-infused confection.
Is this look taking you back to Sienna Miller’s pregnancy reveal in Schiaparelli Haute Couture for the Vogue World Party?
American Football player Stefon Diggs was not to be missing in his shimmery H&M custom suit that exemplifies relaxed tailoring, and a silhouette blends athleticism with elegance.
