Nina Magon x Balmain: A Dialogue of Interior Design & Fashion
The melding of creative minds, blending high fashion and interior design, resulted in an ephemeral event that transformed the Mandarin Oriental Residences in Beverly Hills into a highlight of luxury and design we love! This inspired collaboration between interior designer Nina Magon, furniture expert Adrian Duenas of BeDesign, and luxury fashion brand Balmain elevated a Penthouse apartment into a fashionably artistic dream.
The Creatives Behind the Occasion
Founder and principal of her eponymous studio, Nina Magon, is a world-renowned interior designer. Her work is admired in the homes of celebrities and top athletes alike. Like us, Nina is a lover of the connection between fashion and interior design. A link she began to explore deeper in her business endeavors in 2023 when she joined forces with longtime collaborator and client Balmain for events surrounding the launch of her book, EVOKE, which explores the fashion and interior design connection.
Balmain, an established and tastemaking fashion house, is known for its “New French Style,” pioneered by Pierre Balmain in the early 20th century. The brand of Balmain has been evolving ever since, with current Creative Director Olivier Rousteing building upon the established and marvelous legacy. His drive to create a powerful, inclusive brand has resulted in collections that include tonal, dramatic pieces and fits that bring levity and color to the atelier’s portfolio.
Having recognized Nina’s style as one beautifully aligned with Balmain’s overall aesthetic, the brand reached out to the USA-based designer specifically for this fashion meets interior design endeavor. Nina’s art-centric, daring, and edgy aesthetic was the ideal backdrop for Balmain’s mise-en-scene-style showcase of their Spring-Summer 2024 collection.
Pieces from Balmain’s Spring-Summer 2024 collection
When it came to selecting decor for the space, Nina selected curated pieces from Be-Design, a luxury interior design showroom with a focus on high-end European brands. Founder and CEO of Be-Design, Adrian Duenas, is a longtime collaborator and associate of Nina Magon. With a recent expansion, they are rapidly becoming the go-to for European luxury interiors in the U.S. with well-known names and flagship collections. As such, they were the ideal source for Nina and Balmain’s collaborative design efforts. The shapely, dynamic furniture curated by Nina Magon accentuated the outfits and softened the space with curves and contrasting colors.
High Fashion & High-Class Design
At the imaginative intersection of design, art, and decor is a sensorial fashion experience. The warm, balanced, dramatic seasonal collection from Balmain features prominent floral elements (a major 2024 fashion trend!), romantic silhouettes, and retro accents. Thus, Nina Magon’s decor decisions echoed those choices completely. The smooth angles and contrasting colors of the curated BeDesign decor pieces created inviting, layered dimensions in the space.
Nina Magon’s curation of the Mandarin Oriental Residences penthouse complemented and highlighted the signature elements of Balmain’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection. Specifically, the classy palette and monochromatic backdrop were a fitting set for the intimate showcase. It is a paramount example of how interior design and fashion inform, enhance, and elevate each other when details align and visions are unified.
A Unique Runway Uniting Arts
Designers carefully consider the aesthetic conversation between the show’s setting and the presentation of fashion. Runway dressing is often an important element of fashion shows. But with a less traditional runway on this occasion, other design elements come into play; art and furniture inform the experience. Hence, the black-and-white wall adornment, neutral color scheme, and floral accents served to support and enhance the artful immersion.
Savoir-faire is a concept that transcends craft, uniting art, fashion, interior design, and other creative expressions. Expertise and artistic aptitude are paramount for those practicing at the top of their field. While fashion is wearable art, interior design is an art style one can exist within. Bringing the two together in a conversation of aesthetics and style elevates both, respectively. Additionally, the presentation draws details to the forefront and highlights the exceptional vision of collaborating designers.
Wrapping Up
This collaboration between the world-famous fashion house Balmain, distinguished interior designer Nina Magon, and high-end furniture expert Be-Design is a testament to the creative harmony that is achieved when distinct artistic endeavors unite. And so, ultimately, both aspects of the presentation elevate their counterparts. The interior decor and fashion inform one another, resulting in an immersive sensory adventure that both accentuates and uplifts the artistic immersive experience.
