From dark feminine glam to dramatic updos, the Met Gala red-carpet was full of unexpected beauty moments. But most shocking was the fact that Sydney Sweeney Met Gala 2024 could have doubled for Billie Eilish.
No, really: Sweeney wore a short, jet-black choppy bob wig styled by celebrity hairstylist Glen Coco, complete with full-frontal bangs that was very Billie-inspired. Usually, when someone wears a wig, they look like themselves just…wearing a wig. But somehow, the Anyone but You star was so well-disguised that I, along with a few other Glamour editors, literally thought she was Eilish instead.
What’s more, Sweeney’s shocking Met Gala hair juxtaposed with her floral Miu Miu custom light-blue tulle gown with all-over floral crystal embroidery, and De Beers jewel, was very much giving chic yet edgy Snow White with a hint of Cinderella. I didn’t exactly think that would translate to “Billie Eilish,” but here we are.
As for the makeup behind Sweeney’s beauty transformation? “The contrast between the black gloves and delicate blue tulle of Sydney’s custom Miu Miu gown inspired me to create a look that felt edgy, yet ethereal and feminine,” said celebrity makeup artist Melissa Hernandez in a press release. Hernandez used Armani Beauty to create the look.
Hernandez mastered Sweeney’s perfect, flushed glow with shade 51 of Armani Beauty Cheek Tint and shade 51 in Luminous Silk Creamy Bronzing Powder. “We created a romantic bubble-gum flush of color that was the perfect contrast to the black details of her ensemble,” Hernandaz said.
Those black details in question, of course, include the jet-black wig color, which Coco applied and styled using SUTRA Beauty’s Healthy™ Infrared blow dryer and SUTRA Beauty’s Healthy Heat™ IR2 Infrared 1” Flat Iron, cutting the wig to a desired length that complemented her face shape.
