The Carlyle

Historically, The Carlyle is the epicenter of Met Gala prep. One of New York’s most legendary hotels, known for hosting British royalty, American royalty, and even JFK’s rendezvous with Marilyn Monroe, the Carlyle begins its own preparation for the arrival of its A-listers a full year in advance, down to the custom monograms on the pillowcases. By the first Monday in May, the hotel is filled entirely with Met Gala guests and their entourages, ensuring their safe journey to the stately Met steps. In fact, it’s often outside the hotel’s front entrance, where fans and photographers gather in hordes, that we get our first real glimpse of the night’s best looks. The scene after the event is no less-star-studded; where else can you find the Gala’s co-chairs curled up at Bemelmans Bar? This year, Interview got the exclusive from photographer Andrew Tess, who captured friends of the magazine—including Greta Lee, Troye Sivan, Sarah Paulson, Amelia Gray, Keke Palmer, and Camila Cabello—in classic Warhol polaroid style.
