The Cowboy Carter aesthetic is so much more than cowboy hats and rhinestones. Sometimes, as Beyoncé demonstrates, it’s a slouchy, illusion leather tote bag designed to look like a red bandana.
On Instagram on June 26, Queen Bey posted several snapshots of herself and Jay-Z enjoying a sunny boat ride. Beyoncé wore a white crochet minidress from Retrofête, which she accessorized with a paisley-printed white scarf tied around her hair and a red leather shoulder bag that looks exactly like a large bandana, unless you’re looking very closely. The bag appears to be the Bottega Veneta Foulard, and damn, it really had me fooled.
Bey completed her ensemble with vintage-style white cat-eye sunglasses, a bright red lip, and a cocktail.

It’s definitely a more subtle interpretation of the country-and-western aesthetic Beyoncé has been wearing lately. Her recent outfits have featured lots of denim, fringe, bolo ties, and creatively styled American flags, in addition to the nearly ever present Stetson hat. Some of Bey’s Cowboy Carter looks have included assless chaps. She’s fully embraced saloon-style lace. Belts are often a factor.
Because anybody who’s ever seen a spaghetti western movie or listened to early Taylor Swift knows that there are a myriad of ways to embrace cowgirl-core. This look happens to be a little more Sophia Loren than Dolly Parton.
It’s unclear when or where these photos were taken, but regardless, Bey is serving major July 4 inspo. A white dress? Sun protection? A patriotic purse? All you need is a boat and some fireworks, and you’re ready to celebrate the oh so American holiday.
