Fan Bingbing never fails to honour her heritage on the global stage, as she demonstrated at the Vogue World: Paris 2024 event held at Place Vendome on Sunday.
The actress chose to wear a Hanfu, the traditional attire of the Han people, designed by Zhong Yi of Ming Hua Tang.
Ming Hua Tang, often referred to as the ‘Hermes’ of Hanfu, is renowned for its exquisite craftsmanship and dedication to preserving traditional designs. Fan Bingbing’s Hanfu featured intricate motifs such as a peacock, butterfly, flowing water, cloud shoulders, and full sleeves. This ensemble is an original design by Zhong Yi of Ming Hua Tang, echoing the popular patterns from the Ming Dynasty.
The peacock is praised as the ‘king of birds’ and is a symbol of good luck, evil-warding, beauty and luxury.
Unlike some of her previous modernised looks that celebrate her heritage, this particular look felt deeply traditional and authentic.
The complexity and rising costs of creating such intricate designs have led to a decline in their production, making Fan Bingbing’s choice to spotlight this work all the more commendable.
Her appearance in this beautifully crafted Hanfu not only highlighted the rich cultural history of Chinese fashion but also showcased the artistry and dedication involved in maintaining these traditional designs. By wearing this outfit, Fan Bingbing honoured her heritage and brought global attention to the exquisite craftsmanship of Ming Hua Tang, celebrating a tradition that is both beautiful and significant.
I am absolutely honoured by how much I just learned from researching this look. If any of the details are incorrect, please do let me know.
