Mary J. Blige attended the ‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Season 4 New York City premiere on Thursday, where I almost didn’t recognise her without her blonde hair and over-the-knee boots.
What we are seeing here is Mary separating her singer persona from her actress role, reminiscent of her press tour for ‘Mudbound.’
Mary wore a Balmain asymmetrical striped knit dress from the Pre-Fall 2024 collection, featuring bold stripes that added a retro vibe to her ensemble.
While some might find the ‘80s influence pronounced, the retro aesthetic suits Mary’s bold and distinctive style perfectly, with the asymmetrical design highlighting her confidence in experimenting with different looks.
She accessorized with a choker, but it might have worked better with her braids styled in an updo, which would have showcased the accessory more effectively.
For footwear, Mary opted for Steve Madden Partay sandals instead of her signature Giuseppe Zanotti The Mary Boots, likely due to their quick sell-out.
