The 2024 BET Awards showcased an array of menswear looks that ranged from classic tailoring to bold, avant-garde styles.
After making waves in Milan for Men’s Fashion Week, Usher brought showed us what he learned at the BET Awards. The singer, clearly inspired by the Ralph Lauren Collection, opted for a tailored jacket paired with casual jeans, creating a juxtaposition of sophistication and laid-back style. However, the intentionally worn-in look of his jeans didn’t work for me. While I love the idea of blending tailoring with jeans, the execution with distressed denim left me yearning for a more polished finish. Usher completed his ensemble with striking pieces from AZLEE Jewelry.
Jay Ellis stepped onto the red carpet with a similar idea but executed it with elevated finesse. Wearing a Todd Snyder blazer and shirt with Levi’s jeans, Jay’s look exuded a polished yet relaxed vibe, enhanced by David Yurman jewels. We should not be surprised by Jay’s efforts, as the actor has always been known for his timeless elegance. I love how he effortlessly nailed the look, demonstrating how to balance tailored sophistication with casual cool. I hope Usher was taking notes.
Wyclef Jean brought a burst of summer to the event with his tonal mellow yellow outfit, infused with a touch of Haitian flair. His ensemble captured the essence of the season while paying homage to his cultural roots, making it a standout look.
Rapper 2 Chainz looked more like a rocker in this studded leather outfit which was complemented by Balenciaga’s distinctive Rhino derby shoes, creating a look that was both edgy and stylish. True to his name, 2 Chainz’s accessorizing went beyond the ordinary, proving his flair for the dramatic.
Waistcoats emerged as one of the trending pieces at the event. Gunna embraced it donning an AMIRI Fall 2024 outfit that combined clean lines with bold flair. His jewel pinstripe tailored flared trousers and AMIRI’s Jumbo loafers resulted in a sophisticated and cool ensemble.
Vic Mensa also opted for a look from the AMIRI Fall 2024 collection. While the individual elements of his outfit were striking, the combination, particularly the heavy velvet jacket, felt somewhat disjointed. I wish he kept the crystal mesh tank top and yellow tailored flared trousers and added a lighter shoe or even sneakers which could have tied the look together, potentially making it one of the best of the night.
