Before anyone else tries to call Kamala Harris “childless,” you might want to check with her step-kids, Cole and Ella Emhoff, who have something to say about that.
After conservatives attacked Harris for not having kids, Kerstin Emhoff—Cole and Ella’s mother—released a statement defending her, which Ella has already backed up. “These are baseless attacks. For over 10 years, since Cole and Ella were teenagers, Kamala has been a co-parent with Doug and I,” said Kerstin, who is the ex-wife of Harris’s husband, Doug, per CNN. “She is loving, nurturing, fiercely protective, and always present. I love our blended family and am grateful to have her in it.”
Ella Emhoff then took to her Instagram Stories to back up her mom and step-mom. Tagging Kerstin over a screen grab of the statement, Ella wrote, “Say it louder for the people in the back.” Ella also wrote in the post, “How can you be ‘childless’ when you have two cutie pie kids like Cole and I? I love my three parents.”
A resurfaced clip of J.D. Vance criticizing Harris for not having children has recently gone viral, but he’s not the only conservative to have made this argument against her. Per the New York Times, ex-Ron DeSantis staffer Will Chamberlain wrote on Twitter that Harris shouldn’t be president because she doesn’t have children, and step-children don’t count.
Somehow I don’t think the Emhoffs are the only blended family who have a major problem with that notion.
