Glenn Close Wore Oscar de la Renta To 'The Deliverance' LA Premiere

Fresh off the buzz from Catherine O’Hara’s leather dress at the Venice Film Festival, Glenn Close made a statement of her own at the premiere of ‘The Deliverance’ at the Netflix Tudum Theater in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Sporting a gold Oscar de la Renta coat that featured the same woven and floral applique techniques seen on O’Hara, Glenn certainly grabbed attention. But, honestly, I’m still scratching my head over the inclusion of the coat with this ensemble.

It’s a bold choice, no doubt, but one that left me wishing Glenn had simply stuck to the Ralph Lauren suit and left the Laa-Laa coat at home.

Now, don’t get me wrong—there’s an undeniable allure to the idea of Glenn shaking things up. For a while now, she’s been sticking to a mostly white palette, which, while elegant, has started to feel a bit predictable. I can appreciate the urge to break free from that mold and experiment with something a lot more fun. However, the combination of the gold coat and the white Handsome Stockholm gloves veered dangerously close to the realm of costumey for me.

There’s something theatrical about the coat, so it would feel right at home at a stage-centered event like the Tony Awards, as there’s an inherent performative quality to the coat that would complement a theatrical environment beautifully.

That said, Glenn is a star with a presence that can make almost anything work, and I can see how this look might appeal to some who appreciate her fearless approach to fashion. There’s no denying that she has the confidence to pull off a look that many would shy away from, and there’s something to be said for that kind of boldness.

So, while the Oscar de la Renta coat may not have been my favourite choice for this particular event, I can appreciate the intent behind it.
