Both on the TV show and in real-life, Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu is seen as the epitome of French glamour, and her appearance at the Netflix ‘Emily In Paris’ Season 4 Part 1 premiere at The Egyptian Theatre Hollywood on Thursday was no exception.
If you predicted that Philippine would opt for a French label, you were absolutely right. There’s something inherently fitting about one of France’s most beloved actresses wearing a Maison as storied and iconic as Schiaparelli, especially for an event celebrating a show that revels in the allure of Parisian life.
The Schiaparelli Spring 2024 Haute Couture gown itself is a masterpiece, reminiscent of the architectural designs that have made Schiaparelli synonymous with avant-garde fashion. Some might recall HoYeon Jung’s Louis Vuitton dress from the 2022 Critics’ Choice Awards on account of the hip-protruding structure. However, Philippine’s gown was more subtle. This restraint allowed the intricate details of the dress to shine, rather than letting one feature dominate the look.
The tonal sequins and freehand shapes, featuring the Maison’s signature codes in tonal black velvet, were meticulously trimmed with passementerie cords that danced gracefully under the lights.
Some might have hoped to see Philippine accessorize with the Retrofuturistic earrings that made waves on the Schiaparelli runway, but I believe her decision to forgo them was a wise one. Instead, she chose Pomellato jewels that complemented her look perfectly, adding a touch of sparkle without competing with the dress’s intricate details. The balance here was key—too much, and the elegance of the gown could have been lost.
However, Philippine did embrace the runway look with the Schiaparelli black leather cowboy-inspired mules, complete with a metal toe cap and the signature “S”-shaped heel. These shoes added just the right amount of edge to the ensemble, tying the entire outfit together with a modern twist.
This was the perfect blend of French elegance and modern sensibility. Picking a favourite this week is going to be very difficult.
It has been a summer dominated by black gowns, but who is complaining when they look as breathtaking as this?
Posing alongside writer Darren Star at the after-party, Philippine donned her second Schiaparelli dress of the evening, instantly recognizable by the signature hammered gold brass Keyhole jewel at the collar.
