Aubrey Plaza Wore Dolce & Gabbana To The To The ‘Megalopolis’ New York Premiere

Aubrey Plaza is known for her sharp wit and unpredictable style, but lately, her fashion choices have been somewhat hit-or-miss. Case in point: her ill-fated lace dress at the ‘Agatha All Along’ LA premiere, which, despite its structural ambition, fell flat in execution. So, when she stepped onto the red carpet for the ‘Megalopolis’ premiere in New York City alongside co-star Nathalie Emmanuel, I wasn’t sure what to expect.

Thankfully, Aubrey delivered, and in a Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2024 lace crop top and skirt paired with a cropped velvet jacket, she reminded us why she’s a red carpet wildcard worth rooting for.

This look was a far cry from her previous misstep, and in all the right ways. The fit was impeccable, with the velvet jacket tempering the sheerness of the lace ensemble, adding structure and sophistication. The cropped jacket, with its luxurious texture, brought cohesion to the entire outfit, especially when paired with a velvet veil cap that might have otherwise felt out of place. But here, the veil worked—it made sense, complementing the gothic-romantic vibe that Dolce & Gabbana is known for.

Now, compare this to Diane Kruger’s recent lace outing at TIFF, and you’ll see why Aubrey’s look is so much stronger. While Diane’s ensemble felt too forced and lacking in harmony, Aubrey’s outfit has balance. The jacket anchors the sheerness of the lace, adding a touch of modesty and refinement, while the black satin pumps and tights enhance the overall cohesiveness of the look.

After the disappointment of her Cannes premiere outfit earlier this year, this is easily Aubrey’s best look of the press tour so far. More than just an outfit, it feels like an expression of her personality—edgy, unconventional, but with a sense of control and elegance. I finally get the Aubrey Plaza vibe here, and it’s one I hope she continues to channel moving forward.
