Aubrey Plaza joined her ‘Agatha All Along’ co-star Kathryn Hahn on the red carpet for the LA premiere, clearly receiving the dark and bewitching dress code memo. However, her custom strapless black lace Loewe dress left me scratching my head more than casting a spell.
I think I understand what Loewe was aiming for with this look, but the execution falls flat. The lace body of the dress, with its skin-tone lining, feels disconnected from the sheer lace basque skirt. Instead of a cohesive, mysterious vibe, the two elements seem at odds with one another.
The body gives off a department store vibe—simple and uninspired—while the basque skirt is the only part that evokes the distinctive, avant-garde touch I associate with Loewe.
The result? A confusing mix that doesn’t quite come together. While the dress was clearly crafted with high fashion intentions, it misses the mark by feeling more fragmented than fashion-forward. Aubrey is known for her bold red carpet choices, but this one didn’t land.
