Tribeca’s Jane Rosenthal and Chanel joined forces once again for the ninth annual ‘Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program’ luncheon, held at Locanda Verde in New York City. This star-studded afternoon brought together a powerhouse of women from across the entertainment industry, including actors, directors, musicians, producers, and costume designers. The event celebrated the filmmaking community and honoured 10 emerging female filmmakers selected for the coveted mentorship program.
While the focus of the afternoon was on uplifting women in film, the fashion was just as noteworthy. Celebrities like Olivia Wilde, Whitney Peak, Isabela Ferrer, Havana Rose Liu, and Maude Apatow graced the event in head-to-toe Chanel, each bringing their own flair to the iconic French label.
’70s Revival Done Right
Olivia Wilde has always had a way of marrying modern elegance with retro vibes, and for this event, she was back to her signature ’70s-inspired style. Olivia has mastered this aesthetic, and her look at the luncheon felt like a sophisticated homage to an era she clearly adores. The relaxed tailoring, muted palette, and effortless glamour all worked in perfect harmony. Olivia consistently brings a fresh take on vintage, and this was no exception—her Chanel ensemble captured that nostalgic spirit with just the right amount of edge.
Playful 19th-Century Bloomers
Leave it to Maude Apatow to take a fashion risk, and her playful twist on 19th-century bloomers was a breath of fresh air on the Chanel front. There’s something so whimsical about her look which Maude pulled off effortlessly. It was quirky, it was unexpected, and it worked. This look had a charmingly rebellious quality, proving that Maude isn’t afraid to play with fashion.
Less is More
Isabela Ferrer also caught my eye, specifically for what she didn’t wear. Opting to ditch the bangle-stacked wrists – inspired by her fashion mentor Blake Lively. Bouclé can be a divisive fabric, but styling the skirt with a white shirt injected a youthful and modern twist. Those shoes however…
Selection is key
However, Whitney Peak proved that the classic Chanel suit can imbue plenty of flair and a fun spirit, when you select the right one.
Double Quilted Drama
Havana Rose Liu’s Chanel moment was one of pure texture. Her double-quilted look gave off an air of luxurious drama without going overboard. The interplay between the textures of the quilted fabric and the structured lines of the trousers made this one of the more intriguing standouts of the afternoon.
